How Prediction Market Prop Trading Works

How a prediction market prop firm works, from your first Yes/No trade to your first weekly payout, with a worked example and the rules that matter.

A prediction market prop firm gives you a simulated account to trade Yes/No contracts on real-world events, such as whether the Fed cuts rates or who wins a league. You pay once for an evaluation, prove you can price events better than the crowd, and then keep a share of what you make on a funded account. This guide explains how it works from first trade to first payout.

The short version
  • Prediction market contracts are priced from 0¢ to 100¢. The price is the market’s estimate of the probability that the event happens.
  • Every contract settles at $1 if it happens and $0 if it does not, so your maximum loss is what you paid.
  • A prop firm lets you trade these markets with its simulated capital. Pass the evaluation and you keep up to 90% of the account gains.
  • On TradePath, funded prediction accounts pay out every 7 days.

What is a prediction market?

A prediction market is a market where people trade on the outcome of real-world events. Each event has a Yes side and a No side. If the Yes price is 62¢, the market is saying there is roughly a 62% chance the event happens.

When the event resolves, the winning side pays $1 per share and the losing side pays nothing. Before that, prices move as news arrives and traders change their minds. That is what makes it a market rather than a bet: you are trading against other people’s view of the probability, not against odds set by a bookmaker.

If you want the basics in more depth, read what prediction markets are.

How a prediction market prop firm works

  1. Choose your plan. Pick an account size. TradePath prediction accounts run from $5K to $100K, with every rule published before you pay.
  2. Pass the evaluation. Reach the 10% equity growth target within 30 days (60 with the Double Time add-on), while staying inside the daily and maximum drawdown limits.
  3. Get funded. Verify your identity, sign the trader agreement and receive a funded simulated account with the same rules, minus the profit target.
  4. Get paid. Withdraw every 7 days once you have at least 2% of the starting balance in profit. Your share is 75%, or 90% with the add-on.

A worked example

Say you have a $10,000 prediction account and you think the market is underpricing an event currently trading at 40¢ Yes.

  • You buy 80 Yes shares at 40¢. That costs $32, plus a 1% opening commission of $0.32.
  • If the event happens, each share pays $1. You receive $80, a profit of about $47.68.
  • If it does not, the shares pay nothing and you lose $32.32. That is the most this trade can ever cost you.

Notice the size. On a $10,000 account the maximum profit from any single event is 0.5% of the plan, or $50, so this trade is sized to fit inside that cap. The 10% target is $1,000, which means you need to be right across at least 20 separate events to pass, and in practice more.

Why the per-event cap matters

It is what makes this an evaluation of skill rather than luck. You cannot pass on one big call, so the traders who get funded are the ones who can read many events well. It also replaces the consistency rule found at many prop firms.

The rules that shape your trading

  • 10% equity growth target on the assessment, none once funded.
  • 3% daily drawdown based on end-of-day equity.
  • 6% maximum drawdown that trails your equity high-water mark, including open positions.
  • 0.5% maximum profit per event, on both the assessment and the funded account.
  • 20¢ to 80¢ opening range, so no long shots or near-certainties, and markets must resolve within 60 days.
  • No leverage and no shorting. To bet against an outcome, buy the other side.
  • 1% commission on opening only, and no new positions within 3 minutes of scheduled news.

The full rule set, side by side for the assessment and funded stages, is on the prediction market plans page. For strategy on passing, read how to pass a prediction market prop firm evaluation.

Who prediction market prop trading suits

A good fit if you

  • Follow politics, macro, sport or crypto closely and often disagree with the consensus.
  • Prefer clear, capped risk on every position over leveraged price moves.
  • Can build a pipeline of 20 to 40 events you understand well enough to price.
  • Want fast payouts once funded.

Probably not for you if you

  • Want to make the target on one or two big calls.
  • Prefer to trade charts and price action rather than news and events. FX and CFDs or futures will suit you better.

Common questions

How does a prediction market prop firm work?

You pay a fee for an evaluation on a simulated account. You trade Yes/No contracts on real-world events, and if you hit the profit target inside the drawdown limits, you receive a funded simulated account. On TradePath you keep 75% of the account gains (90% with an add-on), paid every 7 days.

Is trading prediction markets with a prop firm the same as betting?

No. A bookmaker sets the odds and builds in a margin. In a prediction market the price comes from other traders, so it reflects the crowd’s view of the probability. Your edge is pricing an event better than the crowd, and the evaluation rewards doing that across many events rather than on one lucky call.

How much can I lose on a prediction market trade?

The most you can lose on a position is what you paid for it. A Yes share bought at 40¢ can fall to zero, so the 40¢ is your maximum loss per share, plus the 1% opening commission. On a TradePath account the trailing drawdown still applies to open positions, so size each trade against the room you have left.

What account sizes are available for prediction markets?

TradePath prediction market accounts run from $5K to $100K. The rules are the same across sizes; the profit target, drawdowns and per-event cap scale as a percentage of the plan.

Do I need to know Polymarket to trade prediction markets on TradePath?

It helps but it is not required. TradePath prediction pricing and resolution follow Polymarket, so the markets will look familiar if you have used it. If you are new, start with what prediction markets are and the full rule set before you buy.

Trading involves substantial risk. TradePath evaluations and funded accounts are simulated. This guide is general education, not financial advice. Rules can change; the program rules for the product you buy are what apply.
