Every prop firm advertises a profit split and a payout speed. Those numbers matter, but they are not what decides whether you get paid. The conditions around them do: when you are eligible, what has to be true at the moment you ask, and what happens to your gains if something goes wrong.
- Only funded accounts pay out. Profit made during an assessment is not withdrawable.
- Check the first payout timing separately from the regular cycle.
- Buffers, consistency requirements and KYC are the usual reasons a payout is delayed.
- Find out what happens to your gains on a breach before you buy, not after.
The profit split
The split is your share of the gains in a funded account. 80% is common; many firms, including us, let you raise it to 90% with an add-on bought at the start. On a funded account that has made $5,000, the difference between 80% and 90% is $500 per payout.
Payout cycles and the first payout
Most firms pay on a cycle: every 30 days, 14 days or 7 days. The first payout is often different. Some let you take it as soon as you are funded, others make you wait a full cycle or build a buffer first. Read both lines, because the first one is the one you will be waiting for.
| Product | First payout | After that | Your share |
|---|---|---|---|
| One Step, Two Step | Once funded | Every 30 days | 80% (90% with add-on) |
| Instant Funding | Once funded | Every 30 days | 80% (90% with add-on) |
| Instant Funding Lite | Once the 3% buffer and 25% consistency are met | Every 14 days | 80% (90% with add-on) |
| Equities | 14 days | Every 14 days | 80% (90% with add-on) |
| One Step Futures | Once funded, buffer and consistency met | No stated delay | 80% (90% with add-on) |
| Funded Futures | On completing Phase 1 | On completing each phase | 90% at Live Funded |
| Prediction Markets | 7 days | Every 7 days | 75% (90% with add-on) |
What has to be true when you ask
At TradePath there are five conditions, and nothing outside them can be used to decline a payout:
- You are funded. Assessment gains are not withdrawable.
- Your account is compliant and open, with no open positions at the moment of request.
- The profit buffer is cleared, where one applies.
- The consistency requirement is met, where one applies.
- KYC is complete and the trader agreement is signed.
On Instant Funding you can trade before completing KYC, but a failed KYC at the point of withdrawal rejects the withdrawal, forfeits the gains and closes the account. It is the most avoidable way to lose money in prop trading.
Lock Upon Payout
Many firms change your drawdown once you take money out. At TradePath, Lock Upon Payout is on by default: when you take a first payout, your maximum drawdown locks at your original starting balance.
For example, you grow a $100,000 account to $110,000 and take a payout. From then on, falling below $100,000 is a breach, even though your original 6% floor was $94,000. The Remove Lock on Payout add-on (25% of the plan price, chosen at purchase) disables this. It is worth it only if you plan to take payouts early and keep trading the same account.
What happens to your gains on a breach
By default, a hard breach in a funded account closes it and the gains sitting in it are forfeited. That is standard across the industry and it is the part most firms leave vague.
Payout Protector changes the outcome. The account still closes, but you still receive your share of the gains. If you breach with $8,000 of gains on a funded account, without it you get nothing; with it you get your share of the $8,000. It costs 25% of the plan price and has to be chosen at purchase.
How long it takes
Payouts are processed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm New York time, and can be released in as little as 24 hours. Allow 24 to 48 business hours. A request made on a Friday evening will not land in 24 hours. The full detail is on our Payouts page.
Common questions
Can I withdraw profit from an assessment?
No. Assessments test whether you can trade to a rule set. Only funded account gains are withdrawable.
Can a firm refuse a payout because of how I traded?
At TradePath, only the five published conditions can decline a payout. Prohibited practices are defined in the program rules and treated as rule violations, not judgement calls.
What is a profit buffer?
Some products hold back a non-withdrawable cushion that must be built before the first payout. It is not lost; it is the room the account runs on.
Trading involves substantial risk. TradePath evaluations and funded accounts are simulated. This guide is general education, not financial advice. Rules can change; the program rules for the product you buy are what apply.
